…a well-respected team with a notable presence in the social housing sector. The barristers continue to act in a wide range of cases that involve human rights considerations.” Chambers & Partners 2026

‘All very dedicated professionals’ Legal 500 2026

We are consistently recognised by both Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 as a leading set for our housing law expertise.

Our barristers represent public sector and private sector landlords and individuals often in groundbreaking housing law cases. These regularly involve matters where housing, equality, human rights and community care law intersect.

Our recent notable cases include:

• Cifci v London Borough of Sutton [2025] EWCA Civ 1480 – acting for the local authority to successfully resist a 2nd appeal about the role of causation in the meaning of being ‘homelessness intentionally’ under s. 191(1) Housing Act 1996.

• Fatolahzadeh v LB Barnet [2025] EWCA Civ 1174 – acting for the successful local authority: the 1st time the Court of Appeal had to consider the nature and impact of the s. 189A Housing Act duties on the lawful performance of the s.195 prevention duty in s. 204 appeal proceedings.

• R (Begum) v LB Tower Hamlets (Shelter intervening) [2025] EWCA Civ 1049 – representing the local authority that successfully resisted an appeal claiming its database for homeless applicants indirectly discriminated against women and breached the PSED.
